When schools eventually return, it will take time to get back to normal. Do you have a plan in place to look after children’s mental health and well-being? Will you be able to answer all of their questions?

The worst thing we can do is to throw children back into the cut and thrust of school life without preparing them for life after lockdown.

Book a workshop debrief from the UK’s premier PSHE workshop providers

Evidence shows that debriefing adults following a trauma helps them to process difficult thoughts and emotions and return more quickly to normal function. It is essential that we follow the same rationale when children and teenagers finally return to school following weeks and potentially months of lockdown.

By looking after our children’s wellbeing immediately on their return, they will more quickly be able to move on from the disruption of the past, refocus on their schoolwork and plan for their future achievement.

During the lockdown, 2020 Dreams have been hard at work preparing the ultimate covid workshop to debrief – a super workshop built from the best parts of our popular Mental Health, Emotional & Physical Well-being workshop collection.

What does the 2020 Dreams covid workshop debrief include?

We have distilled the most relevant content from 10 of our Mental Health, Emotional & Physical Well-being workshops and tailored them to cover the topic of covid. The areas covered are:

  • Emotional Resilience. How young people can bounce back from turbulent times by understanding their thoughts and feelings about covid and seeking help when needed.
  • Healthy Eating. The importance of a balanced diet and sufficient sleep for boosting immunity.
  • Personal Hygiene. Understanding government recommendations for hand-washing and social distancing. How these can help protect vulnerable people from covid.
  • Positive Thinking. Replacing negative thoughts with positive ones and how to use meditation and exercise to protect mental health.
  • How to be a Supportive Friend. Looking out for one another both within the school and outside.
  • Death & Bereavement. What to do when you have lost a loved one to covid.
  • Understanding Depression. Recognising the signs of depression and knowing where to go to access help.
  • What to do if you feel life is not worth living. (2020 Dreams facilitators will take appropriate action if a student reveals suicidal thoughts or feelings).
  • Anxiety & OCD. The role of the news (including fake news) in increasing anxiety. How to access trusted information via the NHS, PHE, etc. and how to recognise patterns of unhealthy behaviour (e.g. constantly checking the news).
  • Healthy Relationships. Facing problems together and the power of the school community to overcome fear and misinformation.
